In my book I talk about passion being contagious, a great enabler with which to engage your people with the ownership of a shared vision. Indeed, passion in action achieves great things.

Two of my clients, both in the property sector, have been a joy to work with when I’ve been helping them to define Who They Are. Their passion for what they do has enabled them to build and retain loyal teams who care about the business brand and recognise that their contribution matters.

I always talk about the ‘mirror effect’ – your people are a mirror image of your leadership and your clients receive a mirror experience of that which your people receive. Both of these teams are infected by the passion of the business owners and in turn provide an excellent client experience.

Property Consultants Rex Proctor and Partners and Harrogate Estate Agent, Feather Smailes and Scales asked for my support to develop and refine their leadership of their longstanding, successful businesses.

As part of the personal profiling process that I carried out with each shareholder, I engaged with staff, business colleagues and clients. This comprehensive exercise is designed to enable the individual to understand themselves and the value they bring to the business, rather than simply what they are and how good they are at their area of technical expertise. The variety of personal profiling aspects conducted provide a ‘bullet proof’ story of ‘who you are’. And of course, as I talk about in more detail in my book, your business is YOU.

This initial process also reveals where there is strength of synergy across the leadership team and where there are gaps in attributes and therefore missing value add.

In the case of these two clients, this process revealed, with fantastic clarity and consistency, extremely strong business brands where the owners and staff have a passion for delivering quality customer care and value for money. In each case, exceptional levels of care for clients, integrity and honesty have built a loyal customer base where there are levels of trust second to none.
